News about Odhare

Odhare is a village about two hours away from Pokhara in the Tanahun district, about 32 families are living there with 20 children supported by CCDP (two of themare living in the Children’s Home).

One boy Chandra from Odharehas now completed hisschooling and management exams and is working as a volunteer in CCDP 2 hours a day as a home teacher.

In our previous newsletter we spoke about our plans to build another house in Odhare Village. This house is now completed. It has a study room, a room for the staff, and a kitchen/dining room.

From the last four months NabarajGiri a CCDP staff has started to live inOdhare and handle all the works of that area.He gives daily tuition class to the CCDP supported children in Odhare and looks after the CCDP land there and coordinatingthe work in the wider Tanahun District where there are currently 73 CCDP supported children.

We have also been able to build a one room house(picture below)for a family who have lived there for more than 16 years but own no land or house. We have added a small garage of tin roof and at the side of the house as a place to keep some goats, chicken,Rabbits and a few honey hivesas anincome source.

We have planted many fruits trees on the land including banana, mango, Litchi,Lemon, avocado and some wood trees. This year we have also planted more than 100 fruit trees (mango, litchi, lemon, and avocado) for 17 families. Each family was provided with 7 trees. This is a wonderful resource for the community as it will provide home-grown fruit in the years to come. CCDP is planning to distribute more fruit and wood trees in coming year.

As we mentioned before, the village has a water pollution problem. We have distributed water filters for 18 families in response to this. This is again, a valuable resource and a great gift for the community. We have also provided goats for 6 families as a source of income.
